Marco Polo Society
Updated: 8:40am March 5th, 2014
The Marco Polo Society is the Wild Sheep Foundation’s premier Major Giving “society” whose members have given and/or pledged a minimum of $100,000 to the Foundation. Gifts are donor-directed, tax deductible and can be made to WSF’s endowment, operations, conservation, grant-in-aid, education or advocacy initiatives and programs. The $100,000 pledge can be given over time to a maximum of 10 years.  WSF’s objective is 100 members resulting in a $10 million major gift campaign.
Members are inducted into this elite society upon their gift or pledge and receive a custom blazer with Marco Polo Society blazer crest, custom buttons, a crystal vase, lapel pins and most important, the knowledge that they are giving to ensure that WSF continues to “put and keep wild sheep on the mountain” in perpetuity. Since forming the Society in 2008, thirty-two (32) members have been inducted generating more than $3.2 million in gifts/pledges to WSF and our mission programs.
An invitation only cocktail reception and induction ceremony hosted and fully sponsored by Marco Polo Society Committee chairs, and MPS members, Russ and Debi Young, was held Saturday evening during the Foundation’s 2013 convention in Reno. During the reception, Marco Polo Society Chair, Russ Young, thanked the MPS members for their exceptional support of the Foundation and our mission and then inducted new MPS members into the society with the blazer and vase ceremony. New society members Kevin Hurley, Rick & Linda Murphy, Gary & Yvonne Rigotti and Alan Young were presented their blazer and vase and welcomed into this esteemed society of WSF donors and supporters. As the reception concluded Clayton and Modesta Williams also joined the Marco Polo Society and will be inducted during the 2014 reception and induction ceremony.
These new members as well as all society members to date were then recognized from the stage Saturday evening during the Saturday Grand Finale Banquet. During his keynote address, WSF Life Member, Marco Polo Society Member and Founder & CEO of MidwayUSA, wearing his MPS blazer that sported the MPS blazer crest he designed, produced and donated to WSF, Larry challenged those who could to join him in this premier WSF society. By the conclusion of the record breaking Saturday night banquet and auction, Jim & Sue Hens of New York, Tom & Carol Hoffman of New York and Jeff and Jan Demaske of Colorado joined the Society and will be inducted during the 2014 reception and ceremony set for January 25, 2014 at the Peppermill Resort, Spa and Casino in Reno,
WSF salutes our new MPS inductees and all of our Marco Polo Society members (to date.)
